Title: Where I Found You
(Heart’s Compass #1)
Author: Brooke O’Brien
Release
Date:
May 8th 2017
Genre: New Adult | Suspense

How do you protect your heart?
Build a wall.
Lock it away.
Let no one in.
Everyone should have a childhood worth remembering. Only I
remember mine for all the wrong reasons. Starting over in a new town is hard
enough. When you are running from your past, it doesn’t get any easier.
I was ready to say goodbye to the burdens I have carried. The
pain I’ve experienced is more than anyone should have to face.
Then I met him…
He takes my breath away. I can’t ignore the way he makes me
feel. I know he has the power to destroy me.
And that’s what scares me the most.

It’s a few minutes after three o’clock when I hear his pick-up
truck pull into my driveway.  After doing a quick check in the mirror, I
open the door to greet Callum.
Once again, there are no words to explain how handsome he looks
dressed casually in a black t-shirt, jeans, and his Chucks.  Taking a
minute, I let my eyes wander over his body.  Admiring the way his hair is
pulled back beneath his backward baseball cap, how the cotton showcases his
incredible chest, and his muscular arms fill out the sleeves as my eyes roam
back up to meet his stare.
His eyes are bright with amusement, appreciating how I just
blatantly checked him out.  He doesn’t even try to hide his smile.

“You ready, sweetheart, or do you need a minute for a second
look?” He chuckles.

Smart ass.

“I mean, you won’t see me objecting,” I retort, raising my eyebrow
as I flash him a smirk of my own.  I can tell by the smile on his face he
is enjoying our banter just as much as I am.
“As much as I’d love to see that delectable look of desire on your
face again, baby, I have plans for you.  C’mon!” he says, holding his hand
out, ushering me onto the porch as he takes the keys from my hand.
After he safely locks up the house, he takes my hand again and
leads me out to his truck.  Helping me into the passenger seat, he leans
over and secures the seat belt.

After double checking that I’m safely buckled in, he leans back to
meet my eyes again.   Searching my face, I wait for him to say whatever
he so clearly wants to say.  My eyes trace along his sharp jaw down to his
lips as I peer back up to him, hoping he feels this pull between us and will
finally put me out of my misery.
“There will be plenty of that later.  Just you fucking wait,”
he says as if reading my mind, grunting as he steps back down to the ground and
slams the passenger door shut.  Letting out a heavy sigh, I follow him as
he walks around to the driver’s side and quickly climbs into his seat.

Leaning over, he turns on the radio as he backs out of the
driveway.  It doesn’t take me long to realize we’re heading out of town.
The excitement sets in, wondering where he could be taking me.
“You going to tell me where we’re going or what our plans are when
we get there?” I ask, looking over at him.
For a minute, I think he is ignoring me until he looks over at me.
He smiles smugly, and I know without a doubt it’s his way of telling me,
“not a chance.”

The song changes to a tune that I know so I turn it up and settle
back into the seat with a huff, hearing him chuckle to himself.  The
lyrics of the song are about a girl teasing a man by making him want her and it
spurs something inside me.

Turning my head to Callum, I let my eyes roam over the side of his
face, down his chest to the slight bulge in his pants.  Seeing how his
body reacts to me has me fighting my own arousal.  Making the path back up
to his face, I can see his jaw clench, resisting the urge to look at me, his
eyes focusing hard on the road.
The tension in the cab of the truck has quickly changed.  The
air charged with the connection between us strong, it’s pulling us together.
Resting my elbow on the center console, I lean in closer so we are
touching, causing Callum’s arm to tense as I use my index finger of my right
hand to trace along the inside of his forearm.

That sexy fucking arm.

Leaning in closely, I release a slow breath along his jaw until my
mouth is just next to his ear.
“You look so sexy driving this truck, Callum,” I whisper softly as
I run my tongue along the shell of his ear, nipping softly on his ear lobe.
It’s an action so very unlike me, but I can’t hide the way he makes me
feel.
Slowly blinking his eyes, I watch for a second as he closes them
just before he forces them open as if forgetting where he was.  Smothering
a smile, I remove my arm from around his, leaning back against my seat.

Grunting
to himself, he quickly moves his right hand down to his lap, working to conceal
his reaction to me, grumbling,

“Just you wait, sweetheart, I’ll get you back
for that.  Just wait!”

FAQs
Q: Who is at risk for breast cancer?
A: All women are at risk for breast cancer. The majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no other known risk factors.
Q: What are the risk factors that put a woman at higher risk for breast cancer?
A: A personal history of breast or ovarian cancer, a relative who had breast cancer before menopause or in both breasts, a personal history of breast biopsy showing atypical hyperplasia or carcinoma in situ, being young at the time of your first period, starting menopause later, never being pregnant or having your first child after age 30 and having the mutated breast cancer gene BRCA1 or BRCA2
Q: What steps can I take?

A: Age 20 -39: Conduct monthly breast self-examinations and have a clinical breast examination every year. Women under age 40 with a family history of breast cancer and other concerns about their personal risk should consult a trained medical professional about risk assessment and when to begin screening mammography.

Age 40 and older: Conduct monthly breast self-examinations, have a clinical breast examination every year, and an annual mammogram.
Q: When should I do a breast self-examination?
A: The best time to do a breast self-examination is the same time each month. For menstruating women, the self-exam should be performed after the menstrual period has ended when the breasts are less tender.
Q: What is a clinical breast exam (CBE)?
A: A clinical breast exam is performed by a trained medical professional, includes visual examination and palpation (feeling) of the entire breast and underarm area, and is performed in both sitting and lying down positions. Women age 40 and older should have both a clinical breast examination and mammogram each year.

It’s impossible
not to smile that he remembered my drink of choice. It’s also hopeless to
pretend that the boyish grin he’s flipping me doesn’t melt away some of the ice
around my heart.
Still, I
don’t want to play nice.
“I already
had coffee today. But thank you,” I say politely.
“No
offense, but you are kind of irritable this morning. Maybe you could use
another shot of caffeine.”
“You think
I’m irritable now? Keep it up.”
“You never
were a morning person,” he laughs. “Some things never change.”
“And some
things do,” I point out, giving him a look. “Seriously, why are you here?”
“I have
business with Violet. Remember?”
“That’s
bullshit anyway, but she’s not here. You’ll have to come back later.”
“Is that an
invitation?” he laughs.
“Did it
sound like one?” My arms cross over my chest and I’m aware it makes my boobs
look bigger. As his eyes drop and catch the top of my cleavage, his gaze burns
a trail on the ascent back up to my eyes.
Satisfaction
paints a smug look on my face and desire burns in the apex of my thighs. As
discreetly as possible, I clench my legs together to quell a bit of the ache
that’s beginning to throb under his observation.
When our
gazes meet, his is crackling. He lifts a single brow. “I damn sure hope that’s
an offer to come. If it’s not, we have a problem on our hands.”
“No, you have a problem on your hands,” I
say, shrugging. “It has nothing to do with me.”
“It could.”

~ Andrew.
I shouldn’t even be contemplating what my mind is thinking right now because there’s a reason why I keep a wall between my work and home life, but before I have chance to stop myself, I bend down and pick up her bags.
“What are you doing?” she asks.
I continue to walk towards the car park.
“Andrew?”
Taking the key fob from my jacket pocket, I unlock my black Audi, opening the boot before placing her bags in. “Get in the car.”
“Why?” she questions.
“Is that really a question you need to ask? You’re staying with me.”
She doesn’t seem too enthusiastic. She doesn’t even look thankful. Instead her stance instantly reverts to that confident blonde that’s never too far away as she stands with her hands on her hips. “You treat me like shit, Andrew,” she says, eyes wide and full of fire. “Our friends are getting married, for Christ sake, and you treat me like absolute fucking shit!”
“I know. I treat everyone like that.”
“No, just me.”
She’s right, and I loathe myself for it, but it’s just too easy with her sometimes. I exhale, wanting to try and make up for the way I’ve been. “Will you please just get in and let me help you?”
“No. I don’t need your pity.”
I’m surprised at how calm I am considering she’s being so fucking awkward. “I’m sure you don’t, but you do need a bed for the night and as much of an arsehole as you think I am, I’m not going to see you out on the street when I have a spare room. Now get in the car before I make you walk.”
“I don’t need your charity either.”
“Get in the car, Megan.” Our eyes hold each other’s in a fixed stare. She’s protesting. The woman even has the nerve to tap her foot. “Jesus, do you want me to drag you? Because I will. Now. Get. In. The. Car!”
She lets out a sharp huff and stomps to the vehicle like some stroppy teen that’s just had her phone taken off her, getting in and slamming the door. I shake my head and exhale as I look up at the stars wondering what the hell I’ve just let myself in for. “So, help me, God.”
Getting in, I fasten her seatbelt, tugging it tight to make her gasp. “There, that wasn’t so difficult, was it?” I say in a sarcastic tone that makes her brows rise.
“I still think you’re an arsehole.”
“Yeah, and you’re still the most infuriating woman I’ve ever met.”

Will’s words flew
through the air as fast as the snowball had soared, and the second Joey
recognized the serious tone that accompanied them, she froze, panic in her eyes
as she realized Will was between her and the safety of the house. Her only
other option was to run off into the darkness of the grounds, and there was no
chance of that happening. A split second decision had her hauling arse towards
the corner of the building, hoping to God she could get past him fast enough.

The moment she set off
running, Will stepped to the side and reached out his arm in an attempt to grab
her, but she was too fast. Her nimble frame dodged and twisted to the side
leaving his fingers grasping at nothing but thin air. Annoyance had him turning
around, his arms lifting into the air and his hands clasping on top of his
head, his eyes closing.

Only a moment slipped
by, though, before his stubbornness took a hold of him and he in turn set off
running, watching as her tiny body disappeared around the corner, an extreme
feeling of Deja vu filling his mind.

Why was he always
chasing her?

A strange rush of
adrenaline surged through him as his wide strides found him at the door only a
second or two behind her, and the jingle of female laughter, laced with playful
fear, wafted through the gap and into the winter air sending a tingle of
undefined lust down his spine.

Goddamn her.

Eleanor
Lloyd-Jones
Raised in a little village in North Wales, a fierce love of
books and reading was instilled in me by my parents from a very early age, and
I have vivid memories of reading secretly under the blankets with a torch for
hours after lights out, often getting caught! I was blown away by The Borribles
Trilogy – Michael De Larrabeiti at nine years old, and it was then that I fell
head over heels with the idea of imaginary worlds.

A persistent and professional daydreamer, something I still pride myself on
being, I spent most of my early childhood inside my own head making up stories
or scenarios, climbing trees, building dens or doing anything ‘arts and
crafts’.

Music also played a huge part of my young life. Growing up on The Beatles, U2
and Status Quo, my obsession with Top of the Pops and vinyl twelve inches grew
into a love affair with music that has only expanded over time: there is rarely
a moment where music is not playing in my life, and in turn, rarely a time when
I am not singing, even if it is only in my head!

I had always thought I would write a book someday—it has been an ambition for
as long as I can remember—and I have always been told that I ‘have a way with
words’. Over the years, I’ve dabbled in the odd piece of prose, helped friends
to write letters and résumés and I pride myself on her hilarious lyrical genius
when composing poems for friends’ birthdays! 😉

Life, however, got in the way and my dream was stored on the back burner as I
put myself through university and started a family. It was only when
I was nearing the ‘forty’ milestone that I decided it was time I got some of
the ramblings and chatterings in my head down on paper.

A creative mum of one boisterous boy, I class myself as a Yorkshire gal now
after moving to Leeds when I was eleven. I work full time as a teacher, but I
grab every spare minute I can to write, be it on the train to work or by
foregoing sleep for an extra hour or two in the evenings.

My hope for the future is for people to fall in love with my characters as much
as I do. Not a big ask really!

Katie Fox was born in Florida and raised in Pennsylvania,
where she still resides with her gamer husband and four-year-old son. An avid
reader and hopeless romantic, she is a sucker for a good love story. When not
found with her nose buried in a book, she’s usually spending time with her
family or in her writing cave, giving life to the voices in her head.
Since a very young age, writing has been her
passion.

Blurb:
Having a different woman every single night is the way I’ve always done things.
It works and it’s fun, so why change it?
The thought of having a monogamous relationship hadn’t even crossed my mind… until her… the infuriatingly seductive, witty, Goddess from across the pond who now lives down the hall from me.
She teases me with her perfectly shaped peach for an ass and her British accent. She makes me want more, all the while making me feel like I’ll never get it.
The only way I can get her off my mind and out of my system is to get her into my bed.
The bet I have planned may not be one of my brightest ideas, but I’m going to chuck my doubts in the fuck it bucket and win this thing!
She’s not going to know what hit her.

Excerpt:
I slide into the driver’s seat of my new BMW not replying to him as I lock all the doors, signaling to him that I can’t hear him. I rev the engine and he backs away letting me peel out of there, not looking back. I sigh dramatically, that was close!
How was I supposed to know she was married? I feel sorry for the guy, but maybe it’s best he found out now rather than later. I cringe at the situation and then find myself laughing at how my day has already started off, always eventful in the life of Mac.
It’s only seven in the morning so I have time to grab a quick shower before I have to head out to make it in time for work. My best friend, Connor, owns a construction company and I work with him as a contractor and his accountant. I know, right? Beauty, brawn, and brains. I’m a triple threat.
I make the drive back to my apartment building and park outside, looking down at myself still wearing nothing but my boxers and socks. I laugh out loud and open the car door, taking a quick look around. Apart from the odd car driving past, it looks quiet enough, so I jog to the building and open the door with my key. Just as I think I’ve gotten away without getting charged for indecent exposure, a soft, British voice calls out, “Wait! Hold the door, please!”
I sigh trying to decide if being an asshole trumps the embarrassment of being caught in my underwear, but I’m a confident guy, I don’t care. Making my decision, my hand catches the door just before it’s about to shut and my eyes widen as I nearly get trampled on by someone carrying a hell of a lot of books as I open it back up.
“Thanks,” she says hurriedly.
I can’t quite see her face and I don’t think she can see me either, so I think I’ve lucked out on her seeing that I’m not wearing any clothes. I shrug my shoulders, her loss. “You’re welcome,” my low voice rumbles out.
I don’t need to see her face to tell that she’s beautiful. She has her long blond hair scooped up into a messy bun that all the girls seem to do nowadays and she’s wearing short running shorts that encase her toned legs that go on for days with a black tank top that shows off her shapely waist. And damn that accent, why haven’t I noticed her here before?
I press the button to call the elevator and stand back, twisting my head to the side to admire her peachy ass.
“Stop checking me out, Neanderthal,” she quips, giving me a sarcastic smile over her shoulder, letting me see her side profile for the first time. Beautiful.
“Hey, you should be flattered I was checking out your ass. It looks like you work hard for that peach.”
She scoffs. “Do any of those lines actually work on women? Or do you just keep pulling out the same one-liners in the hopes that one day someone will be stupid enough to fall for your bullshit?”
She’s floored me and I don’t know what to say, so I stand here gawping at her.
“Yeah, thought so.” She snorts, turning back around when the elevator pings open.
She walks inside, but I don’t follow her.
“Nice boxers, by the way,” she says with a satisfied smirk on her face, a sparkle in her caramel-colored eyes. Then the doors close.
Shit. I think I’ve just met my match.

SYNOPSIS

It all started with a wish…

Evangeline Grant, or Evan as you’d know her (if you liked living), grew up
surrounded by love. And because of all that love, she had one wish in life.
It was loaded, but it was simple.

A wish that left her heartbroken and hopeless…

Unfortunately, years down the road, that wish was obliterated. A secret she
kept hidden away, suffering alone with only her parents to comfort her in
her dark times. But she wasn’t the only one keeping a secret.

Until he gave her hope…

Then Mr. Tall, Dark, and F***ing Godly himself had to show up and flip the
script. For the first time in years, Evan found herself with hope; all
thanks to Emmanuel Silva. As they each face their demons, a decision has to
be made. A decision that will change the course of not only their lives but
a precious little girl’s as well.

And helped her wish of happily ever after come true…

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kelsey is a romance hoarder, a Bob Seger groupie, and a die-hard fan of all
things leather, fringe, silver, classy, and full of sparkles.

She was never a writer in the normal sense, but she was always a creator of
stories. From Barbie’s to The Sims, Kelsey made sure they lived…interesting
lives. Summer of ’15, Marcus Mumford’s voice crooning in her ear, a
character started to speak to Kelsey and refused to let go. This character
put her on a path of following a dream she never even knew she’d had until
it came true.

When she’s not lost in the world of Willowbrook and all its inhabitants,
exploring a new planet, or finding new places to lose herself in
characters, she can be found deep in the world of other authors, trying out
her baking skills on her family and friends, learning–then tweaking–new
recipes from the Food Network, immersing herself in good music, enjoying
the California sunshine with her two fur babies, relaxing and cackling like
a loon with the people close to her, or disappearing as she binge-watches
seasons in a day on Netflix.
